“They alone live, who live for others” as said by Swami Vivekananda, has been her driving force. Service to people is what inspired her to become a doctor and a politician later. Dr. Bina Basnett completed her schooling from a government school in Sikkim (DGSS) in 2003 and pursued MBBS, MD, from SMIMS, Gangtok. She has worked for people living with HIV/AIDS under the National AIDS Control Organisation (2010-2011), substance abuse and mental health problems at IHBAS, Delhi (2011). She also has some experience teaching medical and nursing students for over 5 years in institutes like SMIMS, AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Medical college,Delhi. In 2018, she entered Sikkim Politics to bring about a new politics of conviction and public service and co-founded a party called as “Hamro Sikkim Party” alongside legendary Indian footballer Shri. Bhaichung Bhutia, wherein, she was elected as the president of the Party in the same year. She was elected as a working president (2019- present ) of an organisation called as “Sikkim Divyang Sahayata Samiti” which works for the people living with disabilities, founded by Droupadi Ghimirey (Padma Shri). She is also involved with work in the field of conservation of the environment in association with ACT.
